Building Towers (and Friendships) with the AEA

DAD

One of our favourite things about electricity is that it’s modular, creative and you’re only limited by your imagination. The same holds true for the timeless classic Danish toy, Lego. That’s why we were thrilled to attend the recent Alberta Electrical Alliance LEGO NIGHT!

D.A.D. Sales is a proud member of the Alberta Electrical Association (AEA).

The Alberta Electrical Alliance is a non-profit, member-based, provincial trade association that works to advance the business and professional interests of its members. Since 1993, their membership has grown and developed to include electricians, contractors, engineers, maintenance professionals, government agencies, manufacturers, electrical suppliers, utility companies and students.

Members support the AEA with annual dues and receive benefits ranging from discounts on events and services to affordable industry education to networking opportunities.

AEA Members, and their families competed across two different events: The tallest un-supported tower challenge, as well as a longest cantilevered horizontal build, challenging design, engineering and teamwork skills. The kids had their own table to compete against the adults, and boy did they compete, almost taking the win.

Local Lego Master Builders were also present, showing off some incredible designs, including an Iron Giant portrait (look it up if you haven’t seen the movie) a naval scene from Star Trek Generations, a giant RISK board, The Hogwarts Express, and many more. The skill level of a Master Lego Builder is something you really have to appreciate in person, and we’re grateful that they turned out to show off their builds.

LEGO is Fun for All Ages

There’s something magical about watching our next generation of builders, planners, architects, and engineers working together to unleash their creativity. The kids had a great time and brought the energy to this great event.

But the kids table wasn’t just fun and games, they gave the adults in the room a serious run for their money in the overall competition, creating an outstanding tower and cantilever bridge. Never underestimate the next generation!

Long-time CEO (and one of our favourite people) Tara Ternes was of course on hand to catch all of the festivities, making sure everything was up to code, and that a maximal level of fun was achieved.

The night was hosted by our very own Joshua Dueck (pictured here safely on a ladder) who also serves as a board member for the AEA, as well as CFL legend and renowned Lego fan John Cornish of the Calgary Stampeders!

Everyone is a winner, but….

What do you get for winning a Lego competition? A Lego trophy, of course!

At the end of the day, one team had to be declared a winner of the overall competition. D.A.D.’s very own Illandi Esterhuizen (third from right) powered her team to the win with a massive tower that required an entire stairwell to house it, and an un-matched cantilever stretching over an impossible distance. They will forever carry the titles of “AEA Lego Master-ish Builder 2023 Champions”.

But if it wasn’t already clear, everyone in attendance was a winner at this AEA Lego Night event. As we’ve all come to appreciate time spent with friends and family working together in person more than ever, the AEA continues hosting outstanding events across the province, including golf and hockey tournaments, curling bonspiels, pool tournaments, award ceremonies and training conferences. If you’re not already a member, join today and get in on the fun and relationship-building!
